There are thousands of amazing gel products in the nail industry. New gel technology and innovations are developed everyday! But are you aware of what's inside the gel products your nail salon offers? Chances are, probably not. Most people trust their nail professionals know what they're doing and that they're using the best products available. Let's hope so. I'm no chemist, but here are a few helpful tips and details to know.

First things first, I always look for bigger, well-known brands. For example, OPI, CND, Gelish, and so on, are companies that have been around for a really long time. So to me, they are large enough companies to hire top chemists to research and develop good and reliable products. But just because you aren't familiar with a certain brand doesn't mean it's no good. Over the years, I've researched and learned about less-mainstreamed brands that are high quality and durable. Some brands includes Akzentz, Light Elegance, and Estemio. Pictured above are beautiful glitter gels from Light Elegance. I love this gel line because the colors are pigmented, their gel products do not contain free HEMA (an ingredient in many gel products known to cause skin allergies), it's made in the USA, and they have a fun and educational social media platform that's easy for me to follow.

If you're a beauty professional like me, you may know that some gel brands are more expensive than others. More expensive brands tend to use higher quality and safer ingredients. Again, what you pay for is what you get! Most importantly, standard salons should have safety data sheets (SDS) readily available upon request. The SDS includes product ingredients, health and environmental risks of each chemicals, and protective measures when handling the product. If a gel brand is cheap and doesn't have an SDS sheet available, that's a red flag. So please, always do your research! Stay smart, and stay safe ❤
